And what a journey it was!
We had been aware of flooding in the area of Vienna even before we left Canada, but it wasn’t until we were on the train headed to Vienna, that we learned that the train we were on was not going to get us to Vienna.
Thanks to the assistance of a lovely and very efficient rail worker (three iPhones at once and VERY fast fingers typing on them) we were able to identify a new route: Nuremberg > Passau > Neumarkt-Kallham > Wels > Vienna/Wien.
Instead of arriving at about 3pm and being on one train, we arrived at 5:30pm after being on 4 trains! But we made it! Some of the connections were tight, but it was a good feeling in the end to know we navigated the challenge successfully!
We passed many lovely towns along the way but I didn’t get much in the way of photos. The photos below aren’t very good or representative. We passed by industrial areas as well as agricultural land – lots of corn and some fields of large squash or small pumpkins.
The last couple of images are of two very interesting and attractive buildings just outside the train station in Vienna.
