Vienna in a day! What to do?

We arrived to Vienna later than expected. So after a short time to settle in to the absolutely wonderful Hotel HENRI, and freshen up, we went in search of some much needed nourishment!

Quite close to the hotel we found 7 Stern Brau which served good food, in a great atmosphere and where we had a lovely person wait on us. Traditional Schnitzel (veal) was great! Others had pork schnitzel and polenta breaded cod. Those were reported as being very good as well. Three different deserts were also enjoyed as well as made-on-site beers!

We then explored some bars, including Felixx, Village and Mango. The first two were intended as spots to socialize and have a drink or two while the third is designed more as a dance club. All three were small which is normal for a socializing sort of spot, but not for a dance club. While Mango has the atmosphere of a dance spot, it doesn’t have the space so we weren’t sure where the dancing would occur if anyone were inclined to do that.

Service was lovely and efficient at all three, with more attention being paid to us at Mango… perhaps because there was almost no one else there!

It was a late night after a long day so sleep was welcome.

I needed a real breakfast, which I found at Figar, in the most amazing avocado toast, with an egg and a side of bacon (incorporated into the presentation – not on the side). I highly recommend this place for breakfast!

I had separated myself from the rest of our group for breakfast because I wanted to linger and have a slower morning. As a result I spent a lovely solitary day doing a 2-hour hop-on hop-off bus tour of the city. This was a great way to see a lot in a short time but as a result, some of the images below are through the bus window – my apologizes.

After the bus, I enjoyed a lemon torte and a small coffee and then wandered back to the hotel where the rest of the group arrived a short time later.

For our last dinner in Vienna we visited a restaurant near our hotel – Centimeter 2. Lucy looked after our table and was terrific. She is funny and edgy and her level of sarcasm was appreciated by our group. She is from Czechia so was able to suggest some dishes for us to try as well as a bar she said we’d like… we’re not sure exactly what that meant!

Since we had an early morning ahead, we decided to have a fairly early evening, so we went back to Felixx for a couple of drinks, then wandered back to the hotel. Along the way we came upon the Mozart park and statue.

Thoughts…

Vienna is the cleanest city I’ve experienced, it’s spotless and also bright and open

This is a city full of art, culture, architecture, design and lots of parks. You could be here for a few months and stilll not have time to take it all in.

Two nights/one full day is not sufficient for a stop in any city

People are great – as they are anywhere.

Tipping is generally at a low rate if at all. People are very appreciative of tips

The train is electric, quiet and smooth
