We’re off on another adventure with our friends E & J. Two weeks in Germany, Austria and Czechia!
The first leg is with Condor Air.
Everything was on schedule, the flight was overnight and very smooth. The flight attendants were lovely and the entire experience is very hospitable. Food was great – supper at about 11:30 pm (Halifax time) consisted of sparkling wine, cucumber and smoked salmon salad, Beef Stoganoff with roasted potatoes and zucchini, chocolate cake (called brownie), roll and butter and a mini chocolate bar. Red wine seemed to freely flow as well. It was lovely.
Sleep didn’t happen easily on this flight. The only negative was the uncomfortable seats.
We did receive extras, bottle of water, a little kit that contained an eye mask, toothbrush and toothpaste and socks! There was also a ‘sport bag’ (carry bag) all to take with us, as well as pillow and blanket for use on the plane.
Breakfast came at about 3:30 (Halifax time) and was also very good, including some fresh fruit, yoghurt, an odd egg/tomato concoction in a pastry and coffee.
Apparently we flew over Cape Breton, Newfoundland, the Southern part of Ireland and England, then crossed the English Channel and along to Frankfurt, likely over Belgium. We didn’t get below the cloud cover until we were over Germany.
Landing and customs was uneventful and our luggage arrived! So… hats off to Condor… but please get better seats.
We allowed ample time between our arrival in Frankfurt and our departure by train to Nuremburg. That was a good plan since we were unfamiliar with the train system which turned out to work very nicely. We noticed when we were in Europe the last time that train stations provide a space for art. The Frankfurt station didn’t disappoint in that way.
The train was a comfortable and efficient way to get to our first main destination. Seats were comfortable. It was easy to get up and walk along between cars, and we were able to enjoy a beer along the way.
The 2 hour train ride was picturesque and passed by many rural, and agricultural areas and small towns. One point of note was a vast vineyard on a southern facing hillside.
